WHY BUY A LED LIGHT?

The world advances, technology keeps progressing and the global economic crisis doesn't seem to be ending.

So, if we can't stop the global crisis, then at least we can use the technological progress to save energy.

LEDs are an excellent way of saving electricity in lighting.

Unfortunately, though, a number of difficulties are being encountered in entering this market on a mass scale because of a strange phenomenon in which LEDs (now with an efficiency of about 130 lm/W to 350 mA) are considered equal to sodium or metal vapour lights (these too with an efficiency of about 80-115 lm/W).

And, in fact, some lighting designers may argue that: "If this is the case, where is all the much publicised energy saving of LEDs as against sodium vapour lights, seeing as the lm/W emitted are practically the same?"

The answer comes from all those people who have been able to witness visually and personally how the human eye perceives greater quantities of the white light of a LED (6,000°K) than it does of the yellow light of sodium vapour lamps (2,500°K).

What actually happens? It's simple: just as in our hearing (humans are not equally sensitive to all sounds), the human eye does not evaluate all light in the same way.

Unlike a lux meter (an instrument that measures light), our eyes see more white light than yellow light.

And this explains how it's possible to make savings in lighting, by taking advantage of the human eye's greater sensitivity to the white light of the LED.

An obvious question is: “What does the useful difference between the white light of a LED and the yellow light of sodium vapour lights amount to?”
The difference is more than 50%, which means to say that one of our 200W LED lights is perceived as more luminous than a a conventional 400W sodium vapour light.

But that's not all.
We have designed and created a dimmer system that makes it possible to increase the energy saving to levels of over 70-75%, thanks to the use of the electronics associated to LEDs.

Furthermore, the use of LEDs brings the following benefits:

  • excellent efficiency at any colour temperature
  • white light, i.e. better perception of colours and details by the human eye at same lighting level
  • unidirectional light, i.e. the total absence of light pollution
  • LEDs last longer than any kind of filament or gas discharge light (with a minimum estimated life of about 100,000 hours!)
  • zero maintenance costs
  • lower possibility of faults
  • possibility of controlling power and luminous flux
  • instant switching on
  • insensitivity to ambient temperature and hence no difficulty in switching on in even the harshest of climates
  • instant start and restart function with electronic transformers
  • constant luminous efficiency of light over time
  • do not contain mercury or lead
  • no ultraviolet light emission and therefore do not attract bats and nocturnal insects.
